Trouble Shooting for Classic Cars

Whether your classic isn’t running right, your restoration project has stalled or you’re eyeing up a car to buy and want to avoid hidden pitfalls - my Trouble Shooting Sessions are here to help. They are your chance to get clarity and direction from someone who’s been there, done that and definitely got the T-shirt.

What is a Trouble Shooting Session?

A one-hour session with me and my dad – aka my apprentice (or maybe I’m his, since he’s taught me everything I know). He’s been working on cars since before Haynes manuals came in colour!

Together, we’ll help you tackle your classic car problem. Between us, we’ve faced just about every issue a classic can throw at you – and lived to tell the tale.

You bring your problem, we bring our experience, ideas and honest advice.

It’s like a garage diagnostics appointment – only without being charged for a new distributor cap you didn’t really need. What you will get is guidance, practical advice, confidence and clear next steps tailored to your situation.

  • ⏱️ 60 Minute Call

A focused 60-minute session of troubleshooting with step-by-step guidance, practical advice and the chance to ask questions and get answers specific to your situation.

  • 📝 Action Plan

After the call, you’ll receive a clear summary of what we discussed, with actionable next steps, recommendations and guidance tailored to your car or project.

  • 🏷️ Optional Feature

A feature and tag (optional) on @thestoryoftrouble's Instagram story, saved to the “Trouble Shooting Sessions” highlight reel, giving your project visibility to my community of classic car enthusiasts.

How much?!

£75 for a 1-hour (online) session.

For £75 you get both me and my dad focusing on your problem, avoiding wasted time and unnecessary expenses. Plus, you'll learn the reasoning behind the fixes so you gain skills and confidence for future troubleshooting.

Note: I can offer in-person sessions which start from £100 and will include additional travel costs. Please email me on hello@thestoryoftrouble.co.uk to discuss further. I'm based in Hampshire, UK.
  • 🚗 Classic car owners with a running issue...

If your classic is on the road but not behaving as it should (whether it’s a misfire, stalling, overheating, electrical gremlins, a rattle etc, etc.) - we’ll help you track down the root cause, guide you toward a fix and give you the confidence to keep it running reliably, whatever the fault might be.

  • 🔧 Classic car restorers who’ve got stuck!

Whether you’ve just started and don’t know where to begin, you’re halfway through and a stubborn part won’t come undone or you’re staring at a pile of components wondering what to do with them next - we’ll help you make sense of it so your restoration keeps moving forward, no matter where you’re stuck.

  • 🤔 Classic car buyers not sure what they're looking at.

Thinking about buying a classic but not sure what you’re really looking at? We’ll give you an honest assessment of the car, highlight potential hidden costs like restoration work or missing parts and help you decide if it’s a dream or a money pit - giving you confidence whatever car you’re considering.

How it works...

I can help anyone who falls into the three user types above, whether you’re nearby or on the other side of the world....

Step 1: Pre-qualifying form
Click the "Book Now" link and fill in the short form to explain your situation. This helps us determine if your issue can be addressed through a Trouble Shooting Session.

Step 2: Book a session
If your case is suitable I'll contact you and provide details to book an online session over Zoom/Google Meet (£75) or an in-person session (from £100).

Note: I can offer in-person sessions which start from £100 and will include additional travel costs. Please email me on hello@thestoryoftrouble.co.uk to discuss further. I'm based in Hampshire, UK.

Step 3: Send detailed brief
Once your booking is confirmed we will organise a date/time which works and I will ask you to provide any additional information we might need e.g. a detailed description of the problem/symptoms, plus any photos, videos, or links (if you’re looking at a car to buy).

Step 4: Have the session
At the agreed time, we’ll dive into the problem together, discussing solutions, troubleshooting techniques and guidance specific to your situation.

Step 5: Get your action plan
After the call, you’ll receive a clear summary of what we discussed along with actionable next steps and recommendations.

Friendly disclaimer

My dad and I do our best to pre-qualify situations to ensure we can provide real value. If your issue is suitable for a Trouble Shooting Session, we’ll do everything we can to help during the hour-long consultation - whether you’re an owner with a running problem, a restorer stuck on a project or a potential buyer seeking guidance on a purchase. However, classic cars can be stubborn...some faults require trial and error, some restoration work is a process of trial and error and some cars have hidden stories that can’t be uncovered without taking things apart or until something goes wrong. We will do our best to provide as much insight as possible within the hour but a comprehensive fix or summary is not guaranteed. I do guarantee an expert set of eyes, a clear action plan with different things to try, consider or look at and the know-how to get you moving in the right direction.
